On June 20, 2018, Instagram announced their new platform called “IGTV” to the world.
Instragram’s growth has been very impressive over the past few years, now pushing over the one billion monthly actives.
Along with that, their growth seems to be speeding up if anything. Users up from 800 million in September to the 1 billion mark in June 2018*
I am curious to see the user response to the new IGTV platform. Critics are saying this platform could potentially challenge YouTube and disrupt their current stranglehold in the video-sharing space. On a side note, YouTube has recently launched a “Premium” paid service to ensure they hold as many monthly users as possible.
One of the unique features IGTV boasts is up to one hour video capability, VS the one minute time limit on Instagram.**
Also, the videos are vertical and built specifically for use on your smart phone, which is a nice bonus feature.
If Instagram’s successful track record is any indication of the future, I’m certain IGTV will be a hit with current users, along with attract new users to their company. Only time will tell.
